Over the past several months life has been pretty boring and usual. Blah I’d like to say. Work, work and more work…ya know the drill. The beginning of this month I was blessed to have the opportunity to spend 4 days in NYC ministering to the homeless population and the souls of Manhattan and Astoria. During this adventure we were able to reach out to “least” of our society. We brought them food, blankets, toiletries and love. We spent time talking, praying and encouraging these people as we listened to their stories. Some of the tails of these people would blow your mind and break your heart.
During our time at NYSUM (New York School of Urban Ministry) we were able to share our stay with a group of Kenyan Pastors. As we spent time and got to know these men and women better we learned of how desperate they are for water. The women have to walk 2 1/2 days just to get water for the village, which will usually last all of a little over a day. These people were beyond poor according to our society, but they had such joy and happiness that put us all to shame and brought us all to tears. We fell deeply in love with these men and women and now pray that God will use us to bring them water.
I am in utter awe, and humility over what God has reveled to me during this trip. My heart is truly broken. I left with a sense of entitlement and pride only to return with contentment, gratefulness and humility. Praise my great Jehovah who provides!
Besides reaching out to the homeless population we spent time in Times Square, the subway, and the streets of Astoria sharing the gospel of Christ one on one. I have no words to express the amazing time we had….good thing a picture is worth a thousand words…probably why I have a ton of them 🙂 ENJOY!
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?
And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And
how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will
anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures
mean when they say; How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good
news!”…”I was found by people who were not looking for me. I showed
myself to those who were not asking for me.” Romans 10:14,15 & 20
